Per research by Angharad24 at the British Library, and Aileen McClintock, looking into wartime registration for identity cards:
Michael’s mother, Doris Irene Dale, was born on 15 December 1918 in Bream's Eaves, a small village in Gloucestershire, near the Forest of Dean and the Welsh border, and not far from the River Severn, Symond's Yat, and Ross-on-Wye.
Her birth certificate is in Welsh as well as English.
Doris' mother (Michael's maternal grandmother) was Edith May Preest before her marriage.
In 1939 her employment was described as "unpaid domestic duties."
She was born on 15 August 1897.
Doris' father, (Michael’s maternal grandfather) was William Alan Dale, originally from Cheshire.
At one point, he was a Colliery Roadmaster, but in 1939 he was described as a Coal Hewer.
He was born on 12 September 1878.
